CONTEXT
Gente Pequena is a nursery based in Lisbon, known particularly for its dedication to healthy meals cooked on-site, ensuring high quality and nutritional standards. Its online presence, however, felt outdated and failed to connect with digital-native parents. The project called for a full digital refresh, including a new visual identity, website redesign, and social media strategy.

CHALLENGE
The objective was to create a modern, responsive website, easy to navigate on mobile and tablet devices, that conveys trust and provides a seamless digital experience for parents always on the go, while emphasising the nursery’s unique focus on healthy, freshly prepared meals.
Competitive Analysis
I analysed nursery websites in Lisbon to identify industry best practices and opportunities. The websites take distinct approaches: A Escola da Maria emphasizes its history and inclusion, providing information about the team, pedagogical methods, and facilities; Infantário Cooperativa de Campo de Ourique is more institutional and functional, prioritizing clarity; and Creche Maria Catita highlights personalized care and detailed activities, conveying closeness with families.

Nutrition Page
From the early stages of the redesign, the decision was made to focus on two key pages: the homepage and the menu page. The navigation bar includes a clear pre-registration CTA and a hamburger menu. This solution came from a client request, as they wanted all page titles to hold equal priority, making the hamburger menu the most practical option.
The homepage is divided into clear sections with an email capture before the footer, designed to create a smooth flow of information and guide parents naturally toward pre-registration. On the menu page, I incorporated a client-provided text highlighting the nursery’s dedication to nutrition, displayed alongside the list of dishes, with a weekly menu feature planned for later development.

Mobile Responsive
Knowing the website needed to be responsive, we designed a mobile version tailored for active users.
Reflection and next steps
While the project was paused due to budget constraints, it was a valuable learning experience and my first opportunity to work as a solo UX designer. Throughout the process, I strengthened my ability to translate client priorities into design decisions. Looking ahead, the next steps would include direct user research, usability testing, and further development of the website’s pages. Additional features, such as a weekly menu calendar, improved accessibility, and more engaging interactive elements, could also be introduced in future iterations.
